Administrative Role and Achievements as Principal and Dean:

Dr.Navneet Kumar served as Principal and Dean, GSVM Medical College Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India from July, 2012 to 9th October, 2018. His tenure marked a golden era for the college as monumental achievements were made in various departments of the college under his able guidance and leadership. His administrative role included being Superintendent In Chief of LLR and Associated hospitals since 2012, which involved a herculean and exhausting task to manage day to day running of 1600 bedded hospital and developing it into a national level health care institute. As Principal and Dean he had been entrusted with the enormous task of recruiting good faculty, inculcating a good work culture and motivating the faculty to work with zeal and enthusiasm to enable the college to reach the pinnacle of success.

In 2012, OPD Registration counters were increased from 3 to 5. Building behind the OPD was included in new OPD. A record number of patients, i.e. 4000 to 5000 attended the OPD in a day, the highest among all state medical colleges of Uttar Pradesh.
Commencement of Specialist OPDs-Neurology, Nerurosurgery, Nephrology, Pain Clinic, Cancer Clinic and Gastro Clinic in 2012.
In 2014, renovation of drainage pipes and sewage system in hospital premises was done after 50 years, with support from Commissioner, Kanpur Division.
Commencement of a canteen for patients in hospital premises in 2015.
Establishment of 3 night shelters for patients in hospital premises, with the support of Rotary Club Kanpur, between 2014 and 2016.
New building for the Orthopedics Department had been established, between 2010 and 2012 by the previous Principal. Shifting of the department to the new building and operationalization of Operation Theatres was done in 2013.
Establishment of the largest NICU among state medical colleges (35 bedded) and renovation of the department of Pediatrics with the support of HAL, Kanpur in 2015-16
Establishment of IYCF training centre in the department of Pediatrics in 2016-17
Psychiatry OPD was shifted to the main OPD block with the support from Commissioner, Kanpur Division in 2016 and construction of a new building in the department of Psychiatry was done.
Renovation of HDU in the department of Medicine in 2016
Establishment of Neuroscience Centre in LLR Hospital, GSVM Medical College, Kanpur – the first of its kind among state medical colleges of Uttar Pradesh. Thereafter, establishment of department of Neurology for management of cases of neurology, and department of Neurosurgery for management of cases of head injury.

– Establishment of a “Skill Development Centre” in Nursing College

– Proposal of “Trauma Centre” incorporated in PIP.

GSVM Medical College, Kanpur was included in the PMSSY scheme in 2016. Approval of construction of “Superspeciality Wing” under the scheme had been granted, with support from PWD and Govt of UP. Under this, demolition of old buildings on the GT road had been accomplished.
Construction of 100 bedded new Maternity Wing in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in (2015-18) with the support of NHM, PWD and Govt of UP. Renovation of 3 wards in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Establishment of new Blood Bank in hospital premises in 2016-17, with the support of KDA. Earlier the blood bank was in the academic block which caused a lot of inconvenience to the patients.
Appreciated by Chief Minister Shri Akhilesh Yadav for performing the herculean task of successful management of 68 passengers injured during the railway accident of Indore-Patna express in November 2016 under his able leadership. Awarded letter of appreciation by Commissioner, Kanpur Division.

Establishment of a ‘Disaster Management Skill Centre’ in the department of Surgery has been sanctioned by Ministry of Health, Govt of India.

AppreciateAppreciated for managing 26 victims injured during the railway accident of Sealdah Ajmer express in December 2016.
– Establishment of a new Burn Unit with the support of Ministry of Health, Govt of India, is proposed in 2018

– GSVM Medical College has been selected by Ministry of Health, Govt of India for establishment of a “Department of Geriatrics”

– Proposal of “e-hospital’ has been sanctioned by Govt of UP.

Establishment of Cadaveric Lab in the department of Anatomy, first among state medical colleges of UP.
Organization of several large scale conferences and workshops in GSVM Medical College, including 6 National Level Neuro-Conferences, from 2013-18.

Research Projects

As Principal Investigator:” Development and Evaluation of Training Module for health care workers for diagnosing epilepsy in community settings” Approved by ICMR for Extra mural research funding.

As Co Investigator:

A) A study on markers of dengue disease severity. Project sponsored by ICMR, New Delhi.

B) Co investigator of Viral diagnostic laboratory (VDL) , medical college level: 3 Crore project, Funded by Department of Health Research, New Delhi.

Presidential convocation: 10th May 2013
Organized ‘Presidential Convocation’ on 10th May 2013 in the presence of Honourable President of India, Shri Pranab Mukerjee and Honourable Governor of Uttar Pradesh. Released a “Postal Envelope” of the medical college. Released a book on ‘Epilepsy Awareness’ and the first issue of the “News Bulletin”.
Booklet on Disaster Management was released on 28th April 2018 in GSVM medical college Auditorium by Hon Cabinet Minister Sri Satish Mahana ji.
Welcomed Honourable President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind and Honourable Governor of Uttar Pradesh on 6th October 2018 during garlanding of the statue of freedom fighter Late Sri Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Ji.

As a Neurologist :

Dr. Navneet Kumar is a renowned neurologist belonging to Kanpur. He did his MBBS, MD (Medicine) and DM (Neurology) from the prestigious King George’s Medical College, Lucknow.He pioneered the initiation of Neurology as a specialization in Kanpur in 1988. Dr. Navneet worked as Professor and Head, Department of Neurology, GSVM Medical College Kanpur for six years from 2012 to 2018. His work included administrative responsibilities, patient care, clinical teaching, and academic work. He routinely managed of all kinds of Neurological Disorders in his OPD at LLR Hospital. He has a special interest in epilepsy and seizure disorders. His vision, commitment and dedication led to the development of the Department of Neurology into a highly reputed institute. Till date has managed more than 100,000 patients of Kanpur and nearby districts in last 30 years.
